Pelvic Organ Prolapse and Descent |HER Body PT

Prolapse occurs when one or more of the pelvic organs bulges or falls down from its normal position.  This can be due to a variety of factors including a weakened support system, poor pressure management, hormonal changes, chronic straining as with constipation or muscle tension.

Prolapse can be reduced with conservative treatment such as physical therapy.  The goal of therapy is to learn how to manage the prolapse, reduce it and prevent worsening.

Pelvic floor physical therapy can be very instrumental in managing this issue and should be considered as an option before women undergo surgical correction.

With targeted treatment, many women can often resume normal function without restriction or limitation.
